Led by European Commission (EC) president Ursula von der Leyen, the EC has approved the proposal to downgrade the protection status of the wolf, thanks in good part to a last-instance decision from Germany to support the motion. This decision is expected to allow for easier population control of the species and the elimination of certain problem cases by designated authorities. A final validation is still needed, but, with that being considered a formality, this change could take effect as early as next year.
The wolf is one of the most misunderstood creatures in the animal kingdom.
