Though Jada has become known as the "Internet's resident therapist," and has one of Facebook Watch's most successful shows to date, she maintains that she would never tell anyone else how to raise their children, and that parents should be able to decide for themselves.

▲Pinkett Smith says, "You always have to remember to take care of you first and foremost, because when you stop taking care of yourself ... you really forget how to take care of others."

▲The Smiths married in 1997, and since then they've been publicly scrutinized, from their struggles with each other to the way they parent their children, but a common thread through it all is that they were always on the same team.

▲Besides learning from your mistakes, Pinkett Smith says, "I think parents have to give themselves much more forgiveness. We all are coming into parenting with our own childhood traumas. And you're hoping you can fix all that through your own rearing of your children, and you can't."

▲When Willow told her mother about that shortcoming, Jada responded by explaining that it came from a place of love. "Your dad and I, we were like, 'Oh man, she'll be set up for life. This is her start.'"

As for the Smith family, the couples' parenting strategies are now being respected as having had positive, long-term results."

▲People were bashing the Smiths' parenting techniques and criticizing Jaden and Willow for being eccentric teenagers, but now the kids are working hard and trying to improve the world instead of partying.

▲The Smiths have allowed their children the freedom of individuality, which is evident in the out-of-the-box mode of thinking Jaden and Willow live by.

▲Many parents want to make decisions for their children, but Jada explained in an episode of 'Red Table Talk' that she wanted to give her kids as much power over their lives as soon as she could, which had confused her own mother.

▲To emphasize the importance of accepting and understanding your own shortcomings, Pinkett Smith asked her kids on 'Red Table Talk' to share moments when they felt their parents made mistakes. Willow said they should have prioritized her musical growth over her popularity.

▲"As a parent I will never ask my children to be less," Jada said in an interview. She explained, "I don't care if Willow wants to own a gas station. She better be a giant doing it."

▲Jada told Net-a-Porter that it's important to remember that your kids are not you. "Sometimes we're trying to fix things that happened to us or projecting [onto them], and that's a terrible, terrible trap."

▲If you want your child to call you when they're in a bind, Jada advised Jimmy Fallon that the parents should be there, but not ask any questions. "You wait until she comes to you and wants to talk to you," she said.

When Willow shaved her head, people asked Jada why she'd let her do that. "First, the LET must be challenged," she wrote on Facebook, explaining that women are far too often reminded that they don't own themselves, and since it's Willow's hair it's her own choice. "I made a promise to endow my little girl with the power to always know that her body, spirit and her mind are HER domain."
