▲At the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards, Stern descended from the ceiling in a memorable outfit. He was wearing a gold suit that revealed just a little too much of his backside.

▲When he got down to the stage, he faked gas, which then led to an explosion on stage. Needless to say, he never got his film.

▲Also in 1992, the FCC had a field day about a comment that Stern made about Aunt Jemima’s pancake mix.

▲He stated that the closest he had come to making love to a black woman was getting off to a picture of Aunt Jemima.

▲The FCC fined him $600,000 for the offensive comment.

▲In 1995, the Latin singer was shot and killed. While her friends, family, and fans were reeling, Stern did not share in their grief.

▲Instead, he played gunshots over her music the day before the funeral, and said that “Spanish people have the worst taste in music,” according to ABC.

▲A city in Texas issued a disorderly conduct arrest warrant, and although they never followed up, he did make an on-air apology.

▲Stern is decidedly not known for his tact. After the shooting at Columbine, Stern made yet another insensitive comment.

▲He pointed out the attractiveness of the women who were running from the shooter, asking if they had tried to have sex with any of them. Following it up with “If I was going to kill some people, I'd take them out with sex.”

▲People were obviously horrified, and the Colorado State Legislature signed an official censure against him.

▲In 1982 Stern wasn’t yet well-known and was working for a local radio station in Washington DC. In January, an Air Florida plane crashed into the 14th Street Bridge. Seventy-four people died.

▲Stern called the airline on-air, and reportedly asked how much a ticket between the bridge and the airport cost, making light of the tragedy.

▲This, in combination with other problems, got Stern fired six months later.

▲In 1985, Stern was living in NYC and working for WNBC radio.

▲He tried to do a segment called ‘Bestiality Dial-A-Date,’ where a “dog lover” phoned in.

▲Needless to say he was canned. However after only a few months, he was picked up by another New York radio station, WXRK.

▲Stern had the highest-rated morning program from 1994 to 2001.

▲His radio show was syndicated in 60 markets all over North America, including Canada.

▲However, in 2000, two of the radio shows in Canada canceled his program. They had received so many listener complaints that they felt like they had no other choice.

▲Sometimes it’s not Stern causing the scandal, but his employees. A.J. Benza and John Melendez (also known as “Stuttering John”) were part of Stern’s on-air team.

▲Chaos ensued when Benza slapped Melendez in the face after Melendez had made fun of him on the show.

▲Benza was fired, and Melendez eventually became Jay Leno’s announcer.

▲On April 1, 2004, Stern decided to stage an April Fools’ Day prank.

▲Instead of his normal show, an announcement was made that his show was cancelled. He then had music playing during his normal show time.

▲Stern came back on an hour in to say that it was a joke, but by that time, people had been taking to social media, and the news had spread rapidly to the general public.

▲In the wake of the Janet Jackson scandal at the 2004 Super Bowl, the FCC was being extra careful with its regulations.

▲According to ABC, they ended up issuing a $495,000 fine to Clear Channel after explicit sexual content was discussed on the show, in addition to the utterance of the n-word. Stern was suspended.

▲He was later fired in April of 2004 after another hefty fine from the FCC. That was when he finally made the switch to satellite radio.

▲The character was supposed to be Fartman, a superhero that Stern was trying to promote in order to make him into a film franchise.
