▲Fans were in a state of shock after the last episode of the first half of the eighth season. Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) was bitten by a zombie. Scott M. Gimple, the show's executive producer, tried to ease fans' fears, saying the wound would be important for Carl's story in particular, and the story in general.

▲This role was a springboard to fame for actress Michelle Williams. And who wouldn't like this rebellious teenager, one of the highlights of the show? She dies in a hospital bed.

▲How could they kill off such a caring mother and the wife of the protagonist in such a horrible way? We never got over this one! Julie Benz is the actress who played Rita.

▲Who wasn't shocked by the death of the inmate played by Samira Wiley? And it was when she'd only just found a love she could call her own!

▲Don't get attached to anybody in this series. It is the show with the most deaths of them all. One of the earlier ones is Ned Stark (Sean Bean). The Lord of Winterfell, Warden of the North, and Hand of King Robert was executed by Ilyn Payne by order of Joffrey Baratheon.

▲The second-most important character of the show, played by Josh Charles, was unexpectedly and brutally killed after a trial ends in a shooting. The incident devastated Alicia (Julianna Margulies) and the public.

▲The eldest son of Catelyn and Eddard, brother to Sansa, Arya, Bran, and Rickon and half-brother to Jon Snow. Robb (Richard Madden) is stabbed in the heart at the Red Wedding.

▲The simple and loyal stable boy worked in the service of House Stark. Played by Kristian Nairn, his character dies sacrificing himself to hold the door for Bran Stark.

▲The lead in the series, played by Mischa Barton, couldn't avoid a tragic end either. She dies after being hit by a car.

▲Played by Anthony Edwards, the doctor left the series sick. Diagnosed with brain cancer, Greene fought the disease and went through various treatments and operations before accepting his fate.

▲The character played by T.R. Knight jumped in front of a bus to save a little girl and was left badly hurt. When doctors discovered that his face was horribly disfigured everybody was left miserable.

▲The series was on fire, especially because of the protagonists Finn (Corey Monteigh) and Rachel Berry (Lea Michelle), who fell in love. But in real life, the actor died due to a substance overdose. So the writers had to arrange his exit from the series.

▲David Tennant was really popular as the tenth Doctor Who, and fans were really let down when his character died.

▲Played by Alycia Debnam Carey, she was killed by a stray bullet. Fans were left upset by the lesbian character's death, and said that gay characters don't have long lives in TV series.

▲The DEA special agent was one of the most popular characters. Unfortunately for Hank (Dean Norris), he discovers that Walter White is the most wanted boss in the region. For knowing too much, he became just another victim.

▲In her final episode this witch is shot. Tara (Amber Benson) dies in the arms of her girlfriend, Willow. To this day a lot of people haven't gotten over it.

▲Meredith's sister, played by Chyler Leigh, dies in a plane accident. It was hard to hold back the tears, especially after Mark Sloan's declaration of love.

▲Everybody loved the relationship the gorgeous doctor played by Eric Dane had with Lexie. But a plane accident destroyed the couple's future. He may have survived, but Sloan's injuries were so serious that he was left in a coma for a month until Callie pulled the plug.

▲He was a normal Sacred Heart patient, Jordan's brother, and a friend of Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley). Ben died from a sudden heart attack during the third season after suffering from leukemia. He was played by Brendan Fraser.

▲This sucked! Reporter James Novak (Dan Bucatinsky) knew too much and was a victim of a cover up by Jake Ballard (Scott Foley). His last words were his daughter's name. Poor fella.

The history professor (Matthew Davis) came back to the series, but the first time he left was painful!

▲Several deaths were controversial among fans, not least the unexpected death of 'Dr. McDreamy,' the husband of protagonist Meredith. Derek saved a family from a car accident before his own vehicle was smashed by a truck. Sent to a different hospital, a possible mistake left the character brain damaged. How could they?

Numerous deaths annoyed the fans of this series, and the fact that Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) died in childbirth rather than being attacked by a zombie as expected didn't exactly improve things. The worst thing was seeing her son have to shoot her in the head so she didn't come back as a zombie.

▲Glenn Rhee's (Steven Yeun) growth was notable, from a secondary character he rose to be one of the best zombie-killers in the series. When the former pizza delivery boy died, fans mourned hard.

Actress Jessica Brown Findlay wanted to leave the series and the only way out for her character, one of the protagonists and a fan favorite, was death.

'Lost' didn't save a lot of lives either. Aside from Locke, Ana Lucia, and Libby, the death of Charlie (Dominic Monaghan) suprirsed everybody. He sacrificed himself to save his friends and leave an important message for the survivors.

Played by Dan Stevens, this character survived the war, but dies in a car accident after his child's birth. Nobody was happy

Taye Diggs, who has starred on The CW drama 'All American' as Billy Baker since its late 2018 launch, was shockingly killed off during the February 13 2023 episode. “It has been an honor to work with Taye over these last five seasons and to watch him bring such incredible life to the role of Billy Baker,” showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “It has truly been a gift for me and my fellow writers to write a character that was equally flawed and heroic. Billy was all of us and what a joy it was to watch this character grow as he raised his kids and his football players as one big family. We wish Taye the very best in this next chapter of his life and he remains a beloved member of the All American family, so you haven’t seen the last of Billy Baker.”

The main character Ted spends the whole series telling his kids the story of how he met their mother. Architect Ted (Josh Radnor) drops clues, talks about relationships, but the best bit is discovering who this mysterious mother is. She barely appears in the series and she dies!

We've all sworn we'd give up watching a show if our favorite character was killed, right? Well it's harder and harder to get attached to some characters, especially secondary characters. Shows like 'Grey's Anatomy,' 'Game of Thrones,' and 'The Walking Dead' really like to toy with our emotions (and make us suffer too!). Even the main characters get killed off every now and then!
