The Texas Stars grab a shutout win (2-0) and the series lead (2-1) over the Milwaukee Admirals in the Western Conference Quarterfinals last night at the Cedar Park Center. The Stars would outshoot the Admirals 15-6 in the first period, but the Swedish born goalie Magnus Hellberg would turn aside every shot faced from the Stars.
On to the second period were the Texas Stars and the Milwaukee Admirals both shut it down defensively, with both teams only combining for 11 shots for the entire period. Milwaukee Admiral Captain Mike Moore would get called on a slashing penalty, and right wing Colton Sceviour would also get nailed with a slashing call earlier in the game.
The third period is where it broke lose for the Stars. Alex Chiasson would open the scoring for the Stars with the redirect goal off a shot from Texas center Justin Dowling, giving the Texas Stars the 1-0 lead. Chaisson made quite a splash in his NHL debut with the Dallas Stars, notching 7 points in 7 games. Newly acquired defenseman Kevin Connauton would put the nail in the coffin with a blast from the point scoring on the power play. Like Chiasson, Stars' goalie Nilstrop was solid playing in his first Calder Cup playoff series, turning away all 21 shots faced. The Texas Stars can eliminate the Milwaukee Admirals tomorrow, on home ice at the CPC, and can continue as one to the Calder Cup.
