The Texas Stars are now in a three way tie for first place in the AHL with 75 points. Riding hot on their coattails is division rival Charlotte Checkers with 71 points. Despite losing many players to Dallas due to injuries and the like, Coach Willie has managed to keep the wins and the team going strong.
This past weekend, however, was not reminiscent of the winning team we have gotten to know. The Stars dropped 2 games in regulation and a shootout. In the last 3 games they have only earned 1 point out of a possible 6. Now is not the time to make mistakes and take ill advised penalties.
On Saturday Matt Fraser scored what appeared to be his hat trick of the night in OT. But the goal was waived off since the whistle had been blown prior, due to Jace Coyle slashing a Barons player. An ill timed penalty no doubt.
We are entering the finishing lap of the season and will head into the playoffs in no time at all. Hopefully this weekend's performance was just a fluke and not a prediction of what is to come.
