Stars Drop Second Game in a Row Against Ducks
The Stars came out of the trade deadline with a completely different look. Having sold off top scoring forward Jaromir Jagr to Boston and versatile center Derek Roy, it was forecasted by many that they would be short some fire-power tonight.
In the second game of the rare 3-game mini series with the Anaheim Ducks, the Stars headed out west and faced a similar fate to the Monday night affair as they lost 5-2. Goals for Anaheim were supplied by Ryan Getzlaf, Teemu Selanne, former Star Radek Dvorak, Andrew Cogliano, and Kyle Palmieri. The Stars did not get on the board until the third period when Erik Cole slipped one past Fasth.
A new face for Dallas scored the other goal. Lane Macdermid (brought in from Boston in the Jagr trade) netted his first goal as a Dallas Star and of his NHL career after he was set up by Ryan Garbutt. While the team was clearly outmatched skill-wise, there was quite a bit of push and desire shown by these young players and many of the veterans alike.
I realize GM Joe Niewendyk has reiterated that this team hasn't sold off and forgotten about this season, but I would not expect Dallas to go 10-2 through the end of April. The Stars will face off against Anaheim again on Friday and San Jose on Sunday to close out this Western road trip.
