The Dallas Stars head to the Buckeye State to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets Monday night, Jan 28th. Dallas coming off another close game after a losing to St. Louis, the Stars look to get back on track again against the Blue Jackets. The Stars played a decent game against the Blues, given the fact they were without Jagr and Roy due to injuries. Jamie Benn not yet cleared to play after being re-signed on Thursday.
On to the Blue Jackets, the one name that had been synonymous with this team is Rick Nash. Well Nash is gone, this big power forward was traded in the off-season to the New York Rangers. However the Blue Jackets still are a decent team with the likes of Anisimov, Dubinsky, Prospal, and Foligno to name a few from the offensive side. As far as defenseman goes the Blue Jackets aren't bad with Johnson, Tyutin, Wisniewski, and veteran Adrian Aucoin. Columbus is not too bad in the goaltending department, with Bobrovsky and Mason between the pipes.
The Stars and the Blue Jackets statically are almost even in every major category except for the penalty kill, Dallas at 77% while Columbus is at 90%. So what does Dallas need to do to get back to winning? Here are some key points for the Stars. First major point get Jamie Benn going early, he might still be a little rusty. Secondly get back to being a defensive "shut down" style team, which in my opinion the Stars could use Jamie Oleksiak on the blue line. Third key for the Stars, stay out of the penalty box, Dallas has already allowed 5 power play goals in as many games. Sure the Stars are banged up, but with Jamie Benn coming back into the line up, it should offer some relief and hopefully get some offense going again.
