(Photo courtesy of zimbio.com) After splitting a home and home series with Phoenix Coyotes, the Dallas Stars head to Denver to play the Avalanche. It's no secret the Stars have struggled on the road of late (1-4-0) as they play Avs who are currently undefeated at home (3-0-0). However the Avalanche do share the same road record as the Stars. Maybe this game can be a turning point for Dallas.
Despite what their records show, the Stars and the Avalanche are two very evenly matched teams, most of their stats are identical. Both teams have already been plagued with injuries, for Dallas it has been Roy and Whitney, as for Colorado team Captain Landeskog, Jones, and Steve Downie who is done for the year. For the Stars Derek Roy is expected to play in Colorado after coming back from a groin injury, which this should help the Stars in the face-off and goal department. Offensive players to watch for in this game for the Stars: Eriksson, Ryder, Eakin, Jagr, and Jamie Benn seems to be getting his game back. As for Colorado, keep an eye out for Parenteau, Stastny, Duchene, Mitchell, and Hejduk who is playing his 1,000th game for the Avalanche Monday night. As for the defense for Dallas Jamie Oleksiak is still getting his feet wet, while Brenden Dillon is starting to morph into a stud on the blue line with his physical play and defensive awareness. A couple of key defensemen for Colorado are Erik Johnson and Jan Hedja both with size and skill for the Avalanche.
The Dallas Stars have been falling fast, but they do still have some time to turn things around. First and foremost stop taking penalties, as this was a killer for the Stars against the Coyotes last game. Next get pucks on the net, as the "Great One" Wayne Gretzky once said "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take". Finally, attack the net and the defense, get a good fore check going early, and take the crowd out of the game. This season is to short to fall behind in the standings, the time to act is now.
