The NHL has suspended Ryan Garbutt five games for charging Anaheim Ducks forward Dustin Penner. Garbutt had an in-person hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety this afternoon, and Stars General Manager Jim Nill accompanied him.
The incident occurred at 6:28 of the second period right after Garbutt came out of the penalty box. He was not penalized on the play.
Penner had to be helped off the ice, and he did not return to the game. He did not play in the Ducks' game against the Toronto Maple Leafs last night, and is still listed as day-to-day.
Garbutt will forfeit $14,763.60 in salary.
