Kari Lehtonen placed on Injured Reserve
Stars fans woke up to some less than favorable news on this Hockey Day in America. Kari Lehtonen has been placed on Injured Reserve after the club called up Christopher Nihlstorp from the AHL. Kari will be available to play next Saturday against San Jose at the earliest (obviously depends on the condition of his groin). The Dallas Stars Released:
FRISCO, Texas - The Dallas Stars announced today that they have placed goaltender Kari Lehtonen on injured reserve, retroactive to the game on Feb. 15 against Vancouver, when he suffered a lower body injury.
According to head coach Glen Gulutzan, the injury does not seem as serious as last year when Kari missed quite a few games. At the time, Bachman played well in his stead and the Stars hope Bachman and Nihlstorp can fill Kari's huge role while he recovers. It looks like we will see Bachman get the start tonight against Calgary.
For the Stars, this will be a huge test and an opportunity for underperforming veteran defensemen to step up and make sure Bachman and Nihlstorp get the support they need to be successful.
