The two-time CHL goaltender of the month from 2012-2013, Aaron Dell has signed on with the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL. An affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, Dell will report to Norfolk to take place in the Admirals training camp, but will most likely start the season in Utah.
Dell, who helped backstop the Americans to their first CHL President’s Cup Championship, was also named the CHL’s Most Outstanding Goaltender for the season along with the All-Rookie team. Prior to joining the Americans, Aaron spent 3 years at the University of North Dakota, where in just his second year, set the school record for wins in a season at 30, eclipsing his future minority owner in Allen, Ed Belfour.
Anaheim has a very deep crew of goaltending ranging from Ducks, Viktor Fasth and Jonas Hiller, but they also boast Team USA world champion, John Gibson who just completed his time with the Kitchener Rangers. Gibson did see time with the Admirals appearing in one game for 2 periods. He allowed 3 goals on just 21 shots. If Aaron can go to Norfolk’s camp and maintain his composure and play the positional game and rely on his instincts which are his strongest attribute, then I believe his time in Utah will be short lived.
Great things are happening for Aaron Dell, and it quite honestly couldn’t have happened to a better guy. On and off the ice, he’s quiet and laid back, but that enables him to remain calm and collected, especially in the world of the CHL where there are some nights it resembles pond hockey. Aaron Dell will be someone hockey fans in Texas will want to watch as he develops and rises through the ranks. Then, DFW fans can say, “I remember when I saw Aaron Dell…”
