The Amarillo Bulls went on the road to Kansas this weekend to take on the Topeka RoadRunners in a best of two series. The Bulls come in to Kansas riding some serious momentum as they sit a top the South Division and the entire NAHL. Amarillo, not known for their great starts in games changed that with an early goal by Mike Davis, however the lead was short lived as Topeka tied it 1-1 late in the period.
Once again, in the second period Bulls forward Mike Davis scored on the power play putting the Bulls back in control. Amarillo now holding on to a 2-1 lead going into the third period, when Topeka would score late getting one past Bulls goaltender Chad Catt. On to overtime with Bulls goalie Catt stopping any chance the RoadRunners threw at him, Bulls Captain John Rey would score the overtime winner late in the game, also giving Catt his first NAHL win.
Now on to Saturday night's game, which started out as a power play fest with both Amarillo and Topeka getting the man advantage three times in the first, however neither team could cash in. The Bulls would get on the board first when Mike Davis nailed in a rebound shot pass RoadRunner goalie Spencer Viele.
On to the second period, the Bulls would score a short-handed goal from Ryan Cole putting them up 2-0 over the RoadRunners. The Bulls had several chances to add to their lead, but couldn't get any thing past the RoadRunners. Topeka would eventualy get on the score sheet in the third period, this time it was their turn to get a short-handed goal, drawning them closer, just behind a goal. The RoadRunners would pull their goalie as a last ditch effort, however Bulls' foward Omar Mullan put the nail in the coffin with an empty net goal.
With the Amarillo Bulls sweeping Topeka this past weekend, they stay on top of the South Division and first in the NAHL, with a four point lead over the Texas Tornado. The Bulls now go on Christmas break, not playing again for two weeks, when the Odessa Jackalopes come to town Friday December 28th.
