50 Chades of Alex
Alex Chiasson (pronounced Shay-sahn) is quickly becoming a name that all Dallas Stars fans know (but perhaps mispronounce?). Unfortunately for San Jose Sharks fans, they became VERY familiar with Mr. Chiasson and his hard charging net presence yesterday afternoon at the Shark Tank. The Benn, Whitney, Chaisson line combined for 2 goals and 4 assists, plus Benn's shootout goal in the Sunday matinee. No too shabby.
As a Montreal native, Alex moved to upstate NY in high school, and couldn't speak a lick of English the day he crossed the border. His senior year of high school looked something like - 45 games, 35 goals, 46 assists (81 points). So who really cares if he couldn't conjugate a verb or that you don't end a sentence with a preposition... eh?
From high school he went on to the USHL and then Boston University. His first year at BU he missed a batch of games due to a concussion, but rebounded his sophomore year with with a solid 14G & 20A in just 35 games. Alex lead BU in scoring each of his last two seasons, and was named a 2011 & 2012 Hockey East Honorable Mention All-Star and was twice honored as the Hockey East Player of the Week (2/20/12 and 3/12/12). Drafted in the 2nd round by Dallas (38th overall) in 2009, Chaisson has just as high expectations of himself, as the Stars have for him.
You can expect a whole lot more of what you've already seen from this 6'3" power forward as the season winds to a close. He has good hands, great puck skills, and has gone hard to the net his whole amateur and pro career. Not to mention the fact that the Stars finally have a right handed winger! Other than The Wizard - Chaisson is the only right hand shooting forward on the roster.
Alex should be on the top line again with Benn and Whitney as the Stars take on the LA Kings at home on Tuesday night at the American Airlines Center (7:30pm).
If you thought the Stars front office was adopting the #SuckForSeth or #NotWinninForMacKinnon mindset... the message wasn't relayed to the locker room.
See you Tuesday night hockey fans.
